DICTATION
I use dictation software to help with transferring hand written journal notes and voice memos in to typed text. It’s not without its pit falls. If I’m not paying attention, it makes up words or completely deletes paragraphs that it seems like it couldn’t be bothered to understand. It sparked a line of questioning:
Dictation as subject, inspiration, as work or material? Lack of understanding, creation of language. Complete nonsense, question how we use language in a multicultural society. Largely frustrated, lack of English in expat society can be seen as ‘unacceptable’, to be inclusive in UAE they provide translations in English, but in other countries this is not the case and the expats learning the native tongue.
How are we understood?
How can we be clearer?
What information is lost on a daily basis?
How complicated is life because of this missing information?
Where does this information got? (Picture a crude image of invisible words filling the ether)
Creating stories from misinterpreted dialogue, this aspect of ‘Chinese whispers’.
What is ‘lost ‘ in translation? Compassion? Relationships? Trust?
Lost in translation- a pattern fragmented, zoomed in and out of context
